-- WE ARE THE NEW FLESH -- by RBillustrations -- WE ARE THE NEW FLESH -- by RBillustrations
Well another halloween-ish piece.....well not really....had this idea in my head for quite some time.

Oui, oui this llustration is based on the 1966 version of Doctor Who's! (scared ya?)

Anywoos....weirdly the idea for this piece sprung up whilst listening a Fear Factory...can't remember which song. :/

So yeah I was originally wanted to illustrated the 80s version of the Cybermen with all of them lined military style, but in the end I wanted to do something sick with the 1966 William Hartnell version.

Basically I wanted to have something more of a plastic mask to reveal some dead flesh....which kinda didn't turn out the way I wanted but I am happy with this version.

So errumm yeah....enjoy!

Illustrated with the magic of pencil and pens.

Coloured on Photoshop CS3

I've always had a soft spot for this design. Any hint that the Cybermen used to be humanoid makes them much scarier.

I loved the Tenth Planet, so spooky. great update.
Anglophile1138 Featured By Owner Oct 30, 2013
Good god, that's terrifying. Combine these with the voices from "Tomb of the Cybermen" and debulkify the chest and you'd pretty much have the ultimate Cyber-model.
TimePonyDwain Featured By Owner Sep 25, 2013
this is far scarier than any cyberman that came after them, the other ones where "we are robots with brains in a jar" where as these where "we were once human, but now we have body's made of metal" you can still see that they where once something living. very well done

This looks similar to Peter McKinstry's concept, was it inspired at all by it?

Yay! Thanks for letting me at your drawing in my folder :D!

I love how you dealt with the hands here. The first episode of Series 7, "Asylum of the Daleks", is going to use all the Dalek designs since the original Dalek story. I hope if they one day decide to do a Cybermen equivalent of that, I hope the touched-up "Tenth Planet" Cyberman looks something like this.

Good to see the PROPER Cybermen - !
Not those clonky stormtroopers from the new series...

I always thought the original design looked like a scary mechanical ghost. This makes me think that even more. well done!

Wow. Brilliant, brilliant piece and an excellent depiction of the original concept.

My only critique is with the mouth design: as mentioned above, the original 'open and unmoving' mouths were down right creepy. I've heard it described as if they were screaming. The voicoder thingy makes sense but... *shrugs* Eh, just something that struck me.

Beyond that though...I repeat, wow! Great to see the Mondasians getting a share of the spotlight!

Cyberman: You are afraid. We shall remove fear.
Etc etc.

Awesome job!!

Really Great!
The first cyberman type like this were scary...the way they opened there mouth and all the voice just flooded out!

Creepy....Good job

Really nice work, looks extremely creepy!

Although I always though the wide open mouth when speaking was the scariest part of the original design...

GREAT work... I have always thought those primitive 1960s Cybermen were the creepiest design they ever had. Sometimes a low budget has its advantages! You certainly brought out the chilling quality to these creations.

Awesome work!

And today, the day you posted this, just happens to be the 42nd anniversary of the airing of Episode 4 (and last) of "The Tenth Planet", the first Cyberman story, and William Hartnell's final episode.
(He regenerated into Pat Troughton at the end)

If you didn't know about this, PrivateRandom, then this was a *beautiful* coincidence! But if so, coolies! :)
